riding lesson

Cate on Apr-1-2008

My 9 year old son, Peter, had his second riding lesson today.  His mount was a medium-sized chestnut mare named Duchess.

Peter says he really likes horses.  I’m secretly hoping he won’t lose interest in them, as I’d love to start riding again, myself.  I had three different horses over the span of 10 years while I was growing up.  I sold my last horse, a registered Quarter Horse nicknamed ”Joe,” when I was a sophomore in college.  I didn’t have enough time for studying and riding, so I felt I had to choose between the two, and my academic pursuits prevailed.   I’ve only been on a horse one time since then.

In those days, there was no such thing as leasing a horse.  Now, it seems that leasing is a popular concept at the local stables.  I’m tossing that option around in my head.  Maybe we can do that someday, too.
